- Pins should be hot-dipped galvanized after fabrication.
- For terminal anchoring of the permanent installation of precast type 7 concrete barrier, refer to the end anchorage detail on standard plan M-606-13, sheet 1, which is provided by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
- An optional 3 inch maximum tapered end point may be included on the stabilization pin to facilitate driving.
Colorado Precast Type 7 Concrete Barrier Plan View of S Bar Ends
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation plan view of S bar ends, precast type 7 concrete barriers should include the following features and conform to the following dimensions:- One #4 S bar included at each barrier end
- 12” between the end of the barrier and the center loops of the S bars
- S bar loops (when measured from the outside of the looped ends) should be 2-1/2” long (typ.) and 1-1/2” in diameter
- S bars should be 16-1/4” long when measured in total from end to end; each outer leg should be 12-1/2” long
- The barrier should include a 12:1 taper (typ.) at each S bar end
Colorado Precast Type 7 Concrete Barrier Elevation View with Pins
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation elevation view with pins, precast type 7 concrete barriers should include the following features and conform to the following dimensions:- Length: 13-1/2”
- Distance between ground line and first #4 S bar: 4”
- Width between the end of the S bar and the side of the barrier: 4-3/4”
- Diameter of bars: 1” (typ.)
- Recess to be 3” width (typ.)
- Fill recess with grout after placing pin
- A stabilization pin is required through the barrier surfacing into the subgrade. Drilled holes are required for concrete pavement. Use two pins for each end in each unit.
- Form a hole for the pin with 1-1/2” O.D. PVC plastic pipe (which is to be left in place)
