What are New Hampshire Portable Concrete Barrier Specifications?
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation outlines specifications regarding details for portable concrete barriers, including section details, joining details, and more.
New Hampshire Portable Concrete Barrier Details
New Hampshire barriers should conform to the following specifications according to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation:
Portable Concrete Barrier Layout
Measure flare from a line parallel to the roadway TW, whether on a curve or a tangent.
For restricted site conditions, lesser offsets may be permitted by the engineer.
To reduce potential for high-angle impacts
Portable Concrete Barrier Layout Details
There should be a 50’ minimum distance from the work area to the roadway centerline.
A blunt end is acceptable on the departure end for one way traffic only. For two way traffic, flare PCB beyond the clear zone of approaching traffic or adequately protect the end as ordered.
Linking Pin
Linking pins are 2’-6” long. They are made of 1” diameter A449 steed rod and should be hot dip galvanized after fabrication per ASTM A123 or AASHTO M 111.
Washers measure 1-1/16” diameter on the inside and 2” diameter on the outside and are ¼” thick. Washers are A572 Graded 50 steel.
Pins include a ¼” bevel at the ends.
Section B-B
Section B-B shows that each barrier includes #4F4 (pairs) and #4F5 bars within the barrier.
Joining Two Barriers
Barriers are joined with a 1” diameter A449 steel rod linking pin (see linking pin for details).
F6-3/4” Diameter Loop Bar
Six loop bars (for a total length of 7’-2”) will be used; bars are ASTM A36 and are hot dip galvanized after fabrication per ASTM A123 or AASHTO M 111.
The long end of the loop bar is 2’-11” long and the short end of the loop bar is 6” long, bent at a 45 degree angle (R=1). The total length of the bar is 3’-3-1/4” long.
Loop bars should be bent around a 2” diameter pin. They measure 3-1/2” wide.
Rebar Schedule F-Shape PCB (12’-6” Barrier)
The barrier rebar schedule is as follows:
- 11 pairs
