Eiffel 101: Tips to Selling Your Vibratory Hammer
Unlike traditional pile drivers that use large weights to strike piles into the earth, vibratory hammers
use vibrations to reduce the earth’s resistance, which decreases the friction between the pile and the ground. This change in friction is what allows the pile to be driven (or extracted) with ease.
When listing your vibratory hammer for sale, it’s important to take quality photos, to include videos of the hammer in use, to set the hammer at a fair market price, to be upfront about defects, and to remember to include specifications.
1. Take Quality Photos in Good Light
By taking high quality photos of your vibratory hammer, potential buyers will get a better sense of what you’re offering and will therefore be more likely to act. Aim to take multiple photos from different angles to ensure you’re showcasing the hammer in its entirety. There’s no need to purchase expensive camera equipment to get the best shot of your vibratory hammer. Good-quality daylight and a clean phone lens should be enough to highlight its features.
2. Take a Video of Your Vibratory Hammer in Action
Photos are great for showcasing details, but if you’d really like to take your listing up a notch, take a video of the hammer in action to show to potential buyers. Buyers want to know what they’re purchasing, and they might hesitate to go through with a sale if they aren’t sure the hammer is exactly what they’re looking for. Videos can help make your hammer more marketable by giving buyers the most accurate sense of what they’re purchasing as well as show validity in the working condition of the hammer.
3. Set Your Vibratory Hammer at a Fair Market Price
If you’ve taken all the right photos, videos and specifications yet your hammer still isn’t selling, it could be because it is not priced near other units of similar value on the used market. Do some research on used vibratory hammer prices and the going rate for similar hammers, and keep in mind that equipment will be priced differently depending on your location, the vibratory hammer’s hours, etc. All of these variables should be considred and factored into your asking price!
4. Be Upfront About Defects
Never attempt to trick potential buyers into overlooking an equipment’s defects. Instead, be upfront an honest about wear and tear, and price your hammer accordingly.
5. Remember to List the Details
Buyers want to know details upfront, like a hammer’s current number of working hours, the year of the model, the serial number, whether a unit manual is included, what previous maintenance has been performed on the hammer, and its schedule and logs. The less work a buyer has to do to obtain these details, the more likely they are to make a purchase, so make it easy for them and list as many specifications as possible.
